History
Back Creek White Dorpers was formed in autumn 2000 with the purchase of 80 embryos from Africa. These were Dries Weis and Leon Snyman blood and formed the basis of our stud. Bloodlines we have added to the stud include Peet Cilliers and Floors Brand.
Early sires included Edson 379, Supreme Exhibit at the 2006 National Show, who started us with a beautiful line of females. Red Rock Z02 was also a sire that produced another magnificent line of females, with one winning Supreme Exhibit at the 2007 National Show. In the last few years the most consistent sires have been of our own breeding.
At the 2009 National Sale Burrawang 080093 and Kaya 080636 were purchased. Both these rams have lambs on the ground which are looking very impressive. The Burrawang stud also has some excellent lambs at Burrawang.
Embryo transfer was used in the initial years to increase the best genetics of the stud. This successfully increased the number of top ewes in the stud to a point now where we are culling at a high level.
Back Creek has enjoyed a couple of on-property auctions, followed by a year of selling rams privately. We now conduct a Helsman sale, which presents buyers with an opportunity to purchase rams of their choice in a buyer friendly environment.
